Paragliding Cloud Clearance and Visibility Requirements

When we’re paragliding we have some visibility and cloud clearance requirements we need to follow. If you’re flying in Class E airspace and you’re below 10,000ft which is most of the time, remember mnemonic.

COC 5 123

COC stands for Clear of clouds

5 is 500 feet below
1 is 1000 ft above
2 is 2000 ft horizontal
3 is 3 mile visibility

If your flying in class G airspace everything is the same but you only need 1 mile visibility instead of 3.

If you fly above 10000 ft the distances are a little farther.

1000 ft above & below the clouds
1 mile horizontally.
5 mile visibility
