What to expect on your first tandem flight
1. Arrival & Check-In
You’ll meet your pilot, sign a waiver, and get a quick overview of the experience. If you’re flying somewhere like San Francisco, expect incredible coastal views.
2. Gear & Setup
You’ll be fitted into a secure harness that connects you to your pilot. A helmet is provided, it's a good idea to bring gloves or a jacket depending on conditions.
3. Safety Briefing
Before takeoff, you'll get a pre-flight briefing which covers:
- How to run during launch
- How to get comfortable once airborne
- What to do (and not do) mid-flight
- How to land
4. Takeoff (The Only “Active” Part)
You’ll walk or jog forward as your pilot inflates the wing.
walk or jog forward a couple steps depending on wind conditions and gently lift off into the air
Most people are surprised how easy this part is.
5. The Flight
Once in the air, enjoy the flight!
- You'll be in a comfortable seated position
- Panoramic views (ocean, cliffs, city)
- Gentle turns and gliding
- Optional: your pilot may offer mild acrobatics if you want more excitement
You might see birds like hawks or depending on the time of year even wales or dolphins below.
6. Duration
Typical tandem flights last:
- 10–20 minutes (standard coastal flights)
7. Landing
Landing is smooth and controlled:
- You’ll stand up expect it to feel like going down a flight of stairs and skipping the last step
- No hard impact usually easier than expected
Quick Tips
- Wear sneakers and layered clothing
- Sunglasses help with wind and glare
- Eat light beforehand (not on a full stomach)
- Relax your pilot does all the work
